Institution History
Varappetty Grama Panchayat is located in the Kothamangalam Block of Kothamangalam Taluk within the Ernakulam district. The panchayat was formed in 1953, and its first president was Prof. V. J. Joseph Kandavath.
Spanning an area of 21.5 sq. km, the boundaries of the panchayat are:
North: Kothamangalam Municipality and Kavalangad Panchayat
South: Ayavana Panchayat
East: Pallarimangalam, Pothanicad, and Kavalangad Panchayats
West: Kothamangalam Municipality
Topography and Agriculture
Geographically falling under the midland region (Idanad), the panchayat's landscape is characterized by numerous small hills, with virtually no flat plains. It lies close to the high-range regions.

The Kallampuza and Vathirappillypuza rivers flow through this panchayat. The prominent hills in the area are Pencilkunnu and Erambrakunnu. The primary irrigation projects serving the region are the Kallampuza Lift Irrigation Project and the M.V.I.P. (Muvattupuzha Valley Irrigation Project) Irrigation Scheme.
