🌳 1. Ancient Roots and Nature Worship
The history of Varappetty dates back centuries. The ancient Sacred Groves (Kavukal) found here stand as proof of human habitation since prehistoric times.
These groves are remnants of nature worship practiced by the hunters and tribal communities who lived here before the 3rd century BC.
Later, the influences of Jainism and Buddhism, along with a matrilineal agricultural system, shaped the social structure of this village.
In the medieval period, following the decline of the Chera Empire, this region became part of the provinces under the Kingdom of Cochin.
🏛️ 2. From 'Pakuthi Kacheri' to a Modern Village
Before becoming an administrative system with precise boundaries as it is today, Varappetty was known as 'Pakuthi Kacheri'. It was a small administrative center under a larger taluk structure.
A Historic Moment (1954): The modern administrative history of Varappetty began in 1954. This region became an independent revenue village when the prominent legislator of that time, Prof. V. J. Joseph, MLA, inaugurated the Varappetty Village Office.
Later, through people's planning movements and local self-government legislations, it evolved into an active Grama Panchayat.
